Women Overhired in 9 of 23 Independent Agencies

          Women were overhired by 9 of the 23 independent federal agencies in terms of women's proportion in the civilian labor force. Down:

          The Social Security Administration (SSA) wins first place in this category for overhiring women:  the agency employs 41.3% more women than their proportion in the civilian work force.

          Second place among the federal independent agencies goes to the National Science Foundation (NSF) which employs 29.6% more women than their racial-gender quota for this group.

          Two agencies are tied for dead last among the federal independent agencies in the quota sweepstakes:  both the Broadcast Board of Governors (BBG, formerly the USIA) and NASA actually underhired women by 30.8% below their quota.

          7 of the 17 federal executive departments exceeded their quotas for hiring women.

          The first place winner is the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services which managed to overhire women by an impressive 36% over women's proportion in the civilian labor force.

          A distant second place in this category is awarded to the U.S. Department of the Treasury which managed to overhire women at the rate of 20.6% more than their proportion in the civilian labor force.

          Coming in dead last in this category is the U.S. Air Force which managed to miss their quota for women by 26.8%.
