Tim
Fay:
Chairman and Founder
Mr. Fay founded Fay Communications, Inc., in 1981. He and his dedicated staff of hard-working professionals (consisting of two men and two women) made tremendous personal sacrifices in order to make the corporation grow 200% per year. The American Dream! Hard work pays off! WRONG! In 1987 the federal government began prohibiting FayComm from bidding on all small, federal contracts because all of those contracts had been set-aside for "historically disadvantaged minorities" -- which classification specifically excluded businesses owned by white males such as Tim Fay. In 1987, when it became clear to Mr. Fay that his government was enforcing reverse discrimination policies that were costing Mr. Fay and his staff their livelihoods, he sued the U.S. SBA and FEMA for racial discrimination -- for denying him the right to bid on a contract that had been set aside for a person of the correct skin color. (See horror story Case 1.) Fay succeeded in obtaining a six month restraining order against the SBA -- which didn't win him any friends in the government -- but in the end the government won and Fay was blacklisted (no pun intended). (Sidebar: In May 2001 Mr. Fay and his wife, who is black, attended a workshop for "disadvantaged minority businesses" sponsored by the U.S. Small Business Administration. The black headmistress of the class gleefully informed the assembled disadvantaged (black) men and women "Most government procurement officers won't even talk to you unless you are a part of our disadvantaged minority business program." Mrs. Fay was absolutely aghast. Afterwards, she commented that "Those people (the SBA) are treating us (black people) like complete fools! If a white person had made the comments that black woman made, there would have been a race riot!") Birth of Adversity.Net As fate would have it, exactly ten years after his 1987 lawsuit, in 1997 the U.S. Department of Transportation contacted Tim Fay about working for them. DOT had an urgent contracting need, they liked Fay's work, and they were quite enthusiastic about getting Fay on board. Except, as DOT soon discovered, Mr. Fay was not a minority! (The DOT contracts had been set aside for non-white business owners.) Thus the U.S. DOT denied FayComm $496,000 in federal DOT contracts because of Tim Fay's skin color (because he is a white male). This blatant discrimination by DOT inspired Mr. Fay to create Adversity.Net in November of that year. (See horror story Case 24.) The world should thank the U.S. DOT for creating Adversity.Net! Additional Background Tim Fay received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Communications from the University of Illinois (Urbana) in the 1970's. Before moving to DC, he managed a small commercial radio station which included a "Soul Hour" segment featuring music appealing to black listeners. The program was hosted by a black announcer whose militant views often conflicted with Mr. Fay's views, but whom Mr. Fay felt had a right, even an obligation, to broadcast his unique, racial message. Mr. Fay also has been an owner of a small regional advertising agency; and he founded his own multimedia company in 1981 which has been his sole source of employment since that time. Mr. Fay comes from a large Irish-German Catholic family of 14 children, and he worked his way through college with various part-time jobs. It took Mr. Fay an extra two years to complete his college education due to the demands of the part-time jobs he worked in order to pay for his education. Born in 1951, and raised in the 50's and 60's, Tim Fay has always supported equal treatment regardless of race and gender. He was taught to respect and admire the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King whose message, he feels, has been horribly twisted and distorted by a cadre of self-serving racial extortionists.
